About the Committee:
The Committee for the Advocacy of Space Exploration is a dynamic new organization that fills a long-missing gap in the space advocacy movement. While there are many excellent organizations involved in education and raising public awareness about space issues, there has never been an active organization focused exclusively on political action in support of space exploration.
The Committee for the Advocacy of Space Exploration is the country’s only fully-empowered Political Action Committee (PAC) designed to support pro-space candidates in federal elections. Unlike other space organizations, we actively seek to influence the political process by endorsing pro-space candidates and financially supporting their campaigns. We also engage in direct lobbying of elected officials in support of a robust and comprehensive space program.
There are numerous technical obstacles to the establishment of a permanent human presence throughout the Solar System, but none that cannot be overcome by human ingenuity. The key barrier to the exploration and colonization of space is a lack of political will. The Committee for the Advocacy of Space Exploration is dedicated to building that political will and helping to make the dream of a space-faring civilization a reality.
Our Vision
In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson dispatched the Lewis and Clark Expedition to explore the unknown regions of the American continent. The scientific information and geographical knowledge gathered by the expedition, and many others like it, paved the way for the settlement of the West. In the decades after Lewis and Clark, enterprising pioneers trekked westward in covered wagons, making new lives for themselves and spreading American civilization across North America.
As Jefferson had envisioned, the settlement of the West was accomplished by a combination of government action and the personal initiative of individual citizens. The creation of a space-faring civilization will follow a very similar path. NASA must pave the way through human and robotic explorations of the Solar System and private industry must follow by undertaking the economic development of space.
The long-term vision of the Committee for the Advocacy of Space Exploration is one of people living and working throughout the Solar System, using its vast resources to better life on Earth and reawakening the pioneer spirit that lies within every one of us.
